Within yearbook and beyond, there are events constantly occurring in Charleston that draw my attraction. Some of these events include the Charleston March for Women, the Charleston Pride Parade, the Folly Island Festival of the Lights, and the Sullivan's Island Tree Lighting. At all of these events, a grater understanding of the community can be felt. At the March for Women, individuals can be captured making political statements. At the Pride Parade, people on all ends of the spectrum are seen expressing their individuality and freedom. At the Festival of Lights, you see families and friends gathering in the holiday season to witness the festive scenery to get into the spirit. At the Tree Lighting you see people from all ends of the city coming together to support the local choir as they sing Noel and prepare themselves for the hot chocolate to follow. News can be found anywhere as long as you're looking for it. To gain a greater understanding of the world it is essential to seek out this news in order to acquire different perspectives and form a perspective of your own. News gathering is the greatest experience of them all as you not only get to undergo events firsthand, but you get the opportunity to share these experiences with others. Ignorance may be bliss, but gaining knowledge and having the opportunity to share it with others is pure ecstasy.
